Derby Day

The boys have been working hard on their Derby cars for the past week. On Saturday they finally got to race.

The finished product.

Waiting for the race.

Gotta have friends. Kollin, Aaron and Dillon are all friends from school plus of course Scouts.

3-2-1 GO!!!!!

I was not the least bit happy (and a tiny bit embarrassed) when Aaron got first place in the Derby for the 3rd year in a row. I still don't know how that happens.

Flashback Friday

I used to work at this A&W when I was in high school. I saw Kathy (owner's daughter) a few days ago and Doug is not planning on rebuilding. Doug lost his house as well and it's just too much right now. If and when he does rebuild it will not be at the same location. He figures the area won't be the same and A&W was such a landmark in the Ellis Park area.

She also said that they had been working on a party for Doug's birthday and also a church dinner the day before they were flooded. When they were finally able to get in and clean up there were 100s of pounds of onions everywhere. It was a horrible mess. Just another picture of the June, 2008 floods here in Cedar Rapids.

Sometimes one of the bigger things that I struggle with is my own frustration and stress level when I suddenly have something "thrown" at me. I usually need about 48 hours to settle down and start to work things out in my mind.

We got notified by our school district today that the elementary start time is being changed to 9am so Andrew's bus time will be moved to sometime after 8am. I so very much appreciate their letting us know now, so we can try to work out the details. But I still find it frustrating and then the worry starts. I fully understand and agree with why the changes have been made. The issue I have is childcare for Andrew.

Right now I have to be at work by 8:30. The schedule has worked out so perfect for us because Andrew is picked up at 7:40 so I have plenty of time to get to work, but I also have to be pulling out of my driveway by 8am. So I'm nervous. It's not like I can just drop Andrew off at the local sitter or take him to the before school program, they are not equipped for him (not that he's hard to take care of, because he's not).

So anyway, I'm just trying to work out the details in my mind so they can be worked out by August. But I've also got to learn to live by faith that everything will work out. My hope is that I can get before school care worked out which would maybe even open up more opportunities at work.

Ok, enough of that. I've got to end this post with more pictures of baby Ben. I've changed my mind (aunts can do that). He looks like Scott, especially in the eyes. Although I still see alot of Beth in him too.

Here he is: Benjamin Michael or is he Ben? Scott calls him Ben, Beth calls him Benjamin. We'll see what takes. He definately looks like his mom.

I've no pictures. I keep thinking I need to blog and then realize I don't have pictures. Does that mean I can't blog? Honestly, I was going to snap a few at church this morning but forgot my camara (my life story).

Our Faith Family had the welcome center and I had this wonderful idea of handing out Hershey's kisses. Wouldn't it be so cool to get a picture of my sweet adorable boys handing out Kisses to the masses.

Well, first off it was cold and Aaron didn't seem to get the grasp that he needs to shut the door between letting people in and saying good morning. Then Andrew decided that he didn't like being at the door and screamed the whole time. Yep, that's Andrew. Instead of saying "good morning" he just screams. I even had it all programed on his switch. Nevermind the fact that he spit up gross smelly stuff that someone else had to bring to my attention.... *sigh* Oh the joy.

But the kisses were handed out, Aaron made it to Children's Church, Andrew watched the movie Cars in the resource room and I made it in for the sermon. So all is well.

February 4

I had a great talk with my brother Scott on Sunday. The baby is due any day now and I can't wait. Also, mom and Chuck were still without power as of Monday from the ice storm in Arkansas. It's close to a week now.

After having been here for 4 months we finally have a fire going in our basement. Loren got a load of firewood from one of his friends, and after a little bit of trial and error got the fire going. He's now taken to falling asleep next to the fire. I think the fireplace was a good thing.

We got togethere with our Faith Family on Sunday to watch the Super Bowl. We were all disappointed when the Cardinals lost so it wasn't really worth any picture taking. I haven't quite convinced them how much fun blogging is yet. I did get this one of Tucker's dog with Andrew thought. Guess they made friends.

When we built this house we opted to do a bathtub with a handheld shower for Andrew, instead of a roll in shower. It's actually a difficult decision because there are pros and cons to both. But the smile on Andrew's face during a whirlpool bath says it all.
